Alumni Weekend, Fall 2010
The Alumni Office is planning Alumni Weekend and we currently are in the planning stages and your input is appreciated. The current thought is to have an on-campus event on Friday and a possible golf tournament on a Saturday. This will not be a fundraiser, it is meant to get the O'Neal alumni together for a social event. The fees associated with the tournament would pay for the expenses. The respective class reunions (1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005) would be planned by the members of each class for Saturday evening at a location of their choice. If you would like to help or have ideas, please contact Lynn Melton at 910-692-6920 ext. 104 or at lmelton@onealschool.org.

Alumni Reunion News
The Class of 1999 had a 10-year reunion in Southern Pines the weekend of October 2-4, 2009. There was a Family Breakfast and Campus Tour on the morning of October 3rd. All 99 Alumni, their parents, children and spouses were invited to have breakfast with representatives from the Administration and Faculty and to take a campus tour. It was a fun morning and the alums were awed by the changes that had taken place at O'Neal. In the evening, the alums met at Ironwood for dinner and then went to Broad Street for some other refreshments. On Sunday morning they gathered again for a Farewell Breakfast at Mac's Breakfast Anytime. They enjoyed each other's company and then headed home.

Homecoming and Alumni Social 2010
Homecoming, held January 8th, was a spectacular event in the new Activities Center gymnasium. The stands were full of O’Neal fans wearing the blue and white O’Neal spirit wear. Homecoming was a great end to a fun and silly Spirit Week on campus as every division was involved with the crazy outfits. There was a pre-game dinner, hosted by the Booster Club, that was well attended and the food was enjoyed by many O’Neal families who came out for an evening of basketball. Talbert’s Catering supplied the BBQ plates which was a nice addition to the pizza and salad. Dessert was hand-made by Booster Club members and was a nice treat at the end of the meal. Many Booster Club members also volunteered their time at the pre-game dinner, at the gate and in the concession stand and are thanked for their time and talents. The O’Neal fans were treated to fabulous basketball from the boys and girls and it was a great evening to be part of the O’Neal community.
After the game, the Alumni Office hosted an alumni get-together at Pine Needles for any alumni who were in town. Approximately twenty-five alumni along with faculty, staff and administration personnel were present to enjoy the drinks and snacks after the game while catching up with the happenings of the alumni. Look for this Alumni Social again next year after Homecoming (please verify that we have an accurate address for you so you can receive our mailings – click on “Contact Information” under the For O’Neal Alumni tab at www.ONealSchool.org).
Third Annual Alumni Day 2010
The Third Annual Alumni Day was held at O’Neal on Wednesday, January 6th in the new Activities Center. The Alumni Office invited recent post graduates to join the current class of seniors for lunch in the atrium and a casual discussion in the theater.
The alumni who attended the event were: Brian Bonville (Appalachian State), Troy Candiotti (Gettysburg College), Caroline Cordell (UNC), Ben Jackson (UNC), Douglass Johnson (UNC), Daniel McCall (Wake Forest), Kate St. John (UNC), Andrew Torrey (Appalachian State), Nathaniel Torrey (St. John’s College), Nick Webster (UNC), Josh Wolonick (UNC) and Lyman Woolens (NC State).
The questions from the seniors ranged from “How do you register for class?” to “What was the most difficult part of dorm life?” The alumni were great at spearheading the conversation to what the seniors really needed to know, sometimes without any real question being asked. The seniors quickly realized that they are very well prepared for the educational side of college life, so much more than many students who will arrive on a new campus next fall.
After the catered lunch in the Activities Center atrium and the discussion in the theater, some alumni stayed on campus and visited with old friends and faculty members that they’ve missed since being away from O’Neal. The alumni were given Post-It note pads and pens that read “O’Neal Alumni” in a bag with Hershey’s Kisses. To the Alumni: thanks for coming back to campus to share your experiences with current O’Neal students!
All O’Neal Alumni are asked to keep in touch with the Alumni Office at www.ONealSchool.org (look for the For O'Neal Alumni tab and the Contact Information tab).
