Committees and Activities
It is so easy to become involved whatever your interests may be and time allows. You may volunteer to sponsor a new family at O’Neal, organize a holiday party for your child’s class, sort gift wrap, or help our students participate in community service endeavors ... the list is endless.
You may become involved in the PA by offering your time on one or more of the following projects. Please contact the chairperson and/or division liaison listed below by clicking on their name.
Sponsor a New Family
Each year we match one of our current O’Neal families with a new family joining the school. Our sponsors try to make contact during the summer months to answer questions and possibly arrange get-togethers. We also assist the Admissions Office with the Orientation/Ice Cream Social for our Pre-K and Kindergarten students before the start of school, and host pizza parties for new middle and upper school students and their families.
Sally Foster Gift Wrap Sale
Students from all three divisions will be asked to participate in this catalog and on-line sales event. Wrapping paper and gifts will be offered for sale and 50% of the sales proceeds are given to the PA. The PA will use these funds for current programs and events listed here and on other PA webpages. From August 21 through September 4, students will receive credit towards prizes for their catalog and on-line sales. Volunteers are needed to help sort and distribute the wrapping paper after delivery in the fall. On-line sales will continue throughout the school year, with the PA continuing to benefit.
This annual picnic on Tuesday, September 15th is a great opportunity for the entire O’Neal family to come together for food and fun and kick off the new school year. The festivities begin with numerous Falcons sporting events (soccer, volleyball and tennis). Immediately following the final game is a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Activities Center, dinner from Talbert's Catering and a variety of children’s activities with music. Please join us for this free family-oriented event hosted by the PA for the entire O'Neal community.
Tag Sale
We will hold the annual Tag Sale on Saturday, April 24, 2010. Start saving your unwanted items that are clean and in good repair for this annual fundraiser, which is open to the community at large.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation
To recognize those who do so much for the students, the PA sponsors two lunches a year for all teachers and staff. In December the class room representatives, grade level parents and liaisons prepare a soup and salad lunch, while in the spring a catered lunch is provided.
There are a number of functions sponsored by the PA where refreshments are prepared by the Hospitality Committee. These include new student orientation, Special Persons’ Day at the Lower School, monthly PA meetings and Graduation.
The PA is committed to promoting parental education through speakers and discussion groups on relevant topics.
Spirit Wear
In conjunction with the Booster Club, the PA will be selling O'Neal spirit wear - collegiate styled sweatshirts, sweatpants, T-shirts and hats in adult and youth sizes at the All School PA Fall Picnic and various sporting or all-school events throughout the school year.
Chairs: Andrea Burns & Elizabeth Landry
Ancillary Fundraising
The PA organizes the collection of Box Tops for Education and promotes the link-up with Harris Teeter and Food Lion along with other smaller fundraising projects that will be launched in the 2009-2010 academic year. Click here for more information.
Chair: Tish Edrington
Division Liaisons
Each school division has a liaison from the Parents’ Association who organizes and assists with activities within that division. The liaisons work closely with the class room representatives and grade level parents and liaisons on a variety of events and activities. They are also a conduit of information between the room and grade level parents and the PA. These knowledgeable volunteers are readily available to help you become involved or find answers to any questions you may have.
