  • 2024-25 Middle and/or Upper School Math Teacher

    The O’Neal School seeks a qualified Math Teacher to teach a full courseload of mathematics classes. The major responsibility of the faculty member in this position is to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program according to the guidelines provided by The O’Neal School curriculum which guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
     
    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
     
    • Have knowledge of, uphold, model, and communicate the mission of The O’Neal School.
    • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons appropriate to each class, at all grade levels of the Middle or Upper School (7-12)
    • Assess, record, and report on the development and progress of students.
    • Stay abreast of developments in the field through reading, research, and professional development, including faculty development days.
    • Ensure safe use of equipment in the classroom.
    • Liaise and collaborate with colleagues, including Division Head, fellow teachers, counselor, and other resources.

  • 2024-25 Middle and/or Upper School Spanish Teacher

    The O’Neal School seeks a qualified Spanish Teacher for a flexible position between the middle and upper schools. The major responsibility of the faculty member in this position is to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program according to the guidelines provided by The O’Neal School curriculum with a particular focus on students’ skill development.
     
    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Have knowledge of, uphold, model, and communicate the mission of The O’Neal School.
    • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons appropriate to each class, at varying grade levels (6th-10th) to meet the needs of the school.
    • Assess, record, and report on the development and progress of students.
    • Stay abreast of developments in the field through reading, research, and professional development, including faculty development days.
    • Liaise and collaborate with colleagues, including Division Head, Department Chair, fellow teachers, counselor, and other resources.
    • Participate in sponsorship of student extracurricular activities.

  • 2024-25 Upper School English Teacher

    The O’Neal School seeks a qualified Upper School English Teacher. Experience teaching either of the AP English classes and/or working with composition pedagogy and citation practices is a plus.

  • Director of Athletics and Transportation

    The O’Neal School is seeking a highly qualified Director of Athletics and Transportation to begin as soon as possible. The major responsibility of this role, which reports directly to the Head of School, is to ensure all activities of the Athletics and Transportation departments are aligned with the mission of The O’Neal School.
     
    Responsibilities May Include:
    • Develop, organize, supervise, and evaluate the entire program of intramural and interscholastic athletics for the entire school.
    • Ensure that all coaches and PE teachers perform their duties at the highest level of professionalism; supervise Assistant Director of Athletics, Transportation Manager, Physical Education teachers, and bus drivers.
    • Ensure that all coaching positions are filled with competent coaches who are properly trained in all organizational and philosophical aspects of the athletic program. In this connection the Athletic Director will collaborate with the Head of School in employment decisions and faculty assignments.
    • Ensure the proper maintenance and security of all athletic equipment and athletic facilities, fields, and courts, working in coordination with the Maintenance team and the Assistant Director of Athletics.
    • Prepare, submit, and administer a budget each year to fund the athletic programs of the school.
    • Provide the scheduling of all athletic contests, arrange for athletic transportation, and hire all game officials.
    • Represent the school at various state, regional, and national athletic associations.
    • Maintain records of team and individual athletic accomplishments
    • Maintain and revise the coaches’ manual each year and set up appropriate meetings with the coaches to review the information and standards in detail.
    • Organize and coordinate, with division heads, off-campus athletic programs.
    • Oversee the distribution, collection, cleaning, repair, and storage of all athletic uniforms and equipment.
    • Take steps to ensure the health and safety of all students in the athletic program.
    • Schedule bus transportation for field trips, athletic competitions, and regular bus routes.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
     
    Requirements:
    • A Bachelor’s degree
    • At least 5 years of experience in management and coaching/teaching.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated attentiveness to details.
    • Ability to use relevant computer software programs including email, Excel and Word.
    • Excellent communication skills related to interaction with parents, students, and fellow employees.
    • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and the judgment skills necessary for soliciting supervisor assistance as required.
    • Ability to report for work on time and perform the job responsibilities in a timely, efficient and accurate manner. This role may require frequent weekend and evening availability as required by athletics competitions.
    • The ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity and honesty.

  • Director of Safety & Security

    The O’Neal School seeks a highly qualified Director of Safety & Security.
     
    Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Safety and Security works full-time during the school year (August through May) to maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors by helping to develop, establish and enforce safety and security policies and access control procedures.
     
    This position will begin in full in August 2024, with occasional training days conducted prior to then.
    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Coordinate a comprehensive school safety program, including working with local law enforcement agencies.
    • Work closely with the Head of School, Division Heads, administrators, and teachers on all areas of school safety.
    • Patrol and monitor campus throughout the school day.
    • Plan and conduct school safety drills. Establish a School Support Team to assist in safety.
    • Coordinate with Maintenance and local Fire Departmetn to conduct required fire inspections.
    • Coordinate with local LEO agencies to provide off-duty security for special events.
    • Work traffic control and student drop-off / pick-up at the Lower School in the mornings and afternoons.
    • Responsible for the School’s safety notification app system.
    • Issue and maintain information about School keys.
    • Manage campus access policies and procedures including fobs provided to employees, students, and vendors, and working closely with the School’s security system vendor.
    • Ensure adherence to any local, state, and/or federal regulations and requirements relating to school safety.
    • Conduct trainings on school safety and security as needed.
    • Assist in the development and impelmentation of security plans for special events.
    • Maintain a strong and positive presence on campus, interacting with employees, students, families, and visitors on a daily basis.
    • Assists with other campus events and needs, as available.
     
    Minimum Requirements:
    • Knowledge and experience in the area of school safety and security. Previous experience as a law enforcement officer.
    • Strong presentation skills, and capable of training faculty and staff on safety measures such as drills and safety apps.
    • Be able to develop good rapport with local LEO agencies and emergency services.
    • Knowledge of communications / dispatch systems and procedures.
    • Possess good people relations and communication skills.
    • Strong computer skills, including the ability to operate the School’s video camera system.
    • Must be able to walk and stand for lengthy periods of time.
    • Must pass a background check, drug test, and driver record check.

  • Middle School Administrative Assistant

    The O’Neal School is recruiting for a qualified Administrative Assistant for our Middle School, to begin in Summer 2024. Under the general direction of the Head of Middle School, the Middle School Administrative Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day administrative operations of the Middle School and responsible for ensuring that all work is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
     
    This position is classified as non-exempt for the purposes of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
     
    Responsibilities:
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and parents. Respond to inquiries via email, telephone, and in person. Address concerns pertaining to students and school policies. Answer all phone calls to the Middle School.
    • Provide office support to teachers and administrators including but not limited to generating letters, making copies, faxing, scanning, sending emails, maintaining files, and providing other daily support to school personnel.
    • Assess needs and order supplies. Prepare purchase orders and check requests.
    • Coordinate meetings.
    • Record student absences and maintain student records / files.
    • Serve as first point-of-contact for all visitors to the Middle School, providing a professional and friendly greeting and assisting with questions, procedures, and protocols.
    • Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned and added as needed
     
    Qualifications:
    • A two-year degree is required. A four-year degree is preferred. Appropriate work experience may be accepted in lieu of education requirement.
    • Five years’ experience in an office setting preferred. Knowledge of office procedures.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience communicating with a population such as students, teachers, staff, parents, and vendors.
    • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong technical skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, and the ability to quickly and adeptly learn new computer systems.
    • Ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills related to interaction with parents, students, and co-workers.
    • Ability to take initiative, adapt to changing work environments and job responsibilities, and seek to contribute to the School outside of the responsibilities outlined.

  • Part-Time Swim Coach

    The O’Neal School Aquatics Club is seeking a part-time Age Group Coach to coach swimmers ages 10-15. This position will work after 5:00pm during the school year and early morning and afternoon practices during the summer, approximately 10-15 hours per week (plus weekends as needed for meets, which are approximately once per month).
     
    All travel expenses and certification costs are reimbursed. Rate of pay is $15-$18 per hour depending on experience.
     
    We are looking for a responsible, dependable, and fun coach who is dedicated to teaching the love of competitive swim to future generations.
     
    Desired qualifications include:
    • USA Swimming Coach certification required
    • Strong ability to communicate with kids ages 10-15, parents, and other coaches and staff
    • Patient, respectful, enthusiastic, and positive
    • Strong organizational and goal-setting skills
    • View coaching as a role with the power to shape athletes into upstanding individuals
     
    Responsibilities include:
    • Developing a coaching plan geared to the success of each athlete
    • Running practice 5 days per week
    • Attending swim meets
    • Communicating with parents/guardians
    • Planning team-building activities
    • Developing an understanding of each athlete’s abilities and appropriately assigning meet events based on skill level
    • Minimal pool maintenance
     
    The O’Neal Aquatics Club is a growing swim club in it’s 6th year. We are dedicated to the development of competitive athletes at all levels while building strength of character and physical well-being in a positive environment where safety, integrity, self-discipline, and consideration for others are fundamental. We are small but mighty, having produced top-ranked swimmers in NC. We offer a year-round swim team, swim lessons, and summer swim league.
