Making a Difference

From the Lower School
Today was a gorgeous day for the second and fifth grade students to travel the O’Neal Trail. Students arrived to school dressed as pioneers and ready to hit the trail. They were so excited and appeared to be unconcerned about crossing the river or meeting bandits along the way. The students used their problem-solving skills to pass through nine stations of difficult activities. Then each family rode in a real covered wagon before reaching Tate Gymnasium for family portraits and a celebration feast with singing and dancing. Even Headmaster Alan Barr enjoyed a ride in the 1906 covered wagon. We want to thank the parents, teachers and volunteers who helped to make this a fun-filled memorable day for our students!
The O’Neal Family Fun Party for Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade students was very well attended on Thursday evening. Students and parents participated in an exciting game of Whiffle Ball in the gym in the Activities Center and then enjoyed pizza and dessert in the atrium. Having Coach Woodfield and Coach Dahl as key players made the game even more fun for our little ones. Thank you Coach Woodfield and Coach Dahl for making this a special event for the children. We also appreciate the planning and hard work of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gutschmit, parents of Alan, Lily and Maddie; Brenda Jackson, Assistant Headmaster and Director of Institutional Advancement; and Laura Wrightson, Advancement Systems Manager.
The 14th Annual Young Peoples’ Fine Arts Festival sponsored by the Arts Council of Moore County is being held at Campbell House in Southern Pines. I hope that you will have time to visit Campbell House and view our students’ artwork that will be on display. The reception honoring the students who have had artwork submitted will be this evening from 5:00-7:00. The exhibit is open to the public and will last through March 20th. The hours are M-F 9am-5pm and Saturday, March 20th, 2-4 pm.
We are hoping that we have had our last snow and that Spring is really right around the corner. All of us at the Lower School are pretty excited about Spring Break and having the time to slow down and enjoy family and friends. We hope that all of you have a great break!
We will return to school on Monday, March 22nd. That will be a Day 4.
