Thursday, Sept. 9th is the Registration Deadline for the Oct. 10th SAT, given at O’Neal.

Friday, Sept. 18th is the Registration Deadline for the Oct. 24th ACT.

Scholarships/Awards/Contests
The Wendy’s High School Heisman Award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics, and student leadership. Applications must be completed online no later than 5pm, central time, on October 1. All applicants must have their online application reviewed and confirmed by a school representative. UNC-Charlotte announces an exciting new scholarship program, The Levine Scholars Program. The scholarship is valued at $90,000 and includes full tuition, room and board, a new laptop, and four summers of experience, including an international experience. Scholars will also receive a grant to implement a service project of their own design in the community. Qualified students will demonstrate a commitment to community service, hold an outstanding academic record, and a passion to make a difference. Deadline for application is December 1st.
The Art Institutes offer educational opportunities available in the creative and applied arts.Full and partial scholarships are available in fashion design, fashion marketing and merchandising, culinary arts, game art design, audio production, and more. Enriching Summer Opportunities
ActionQuest is a worldwide summer adventure program for teens that is run primarily aboard sailing vessels and offers leadership and water sports certification programs to students. O’Neal students have participated in this program in the past. A cd is available in the office for anyone interested or you can visit www.actionquest.com. for more info.
Lifeworks-International offers global service adventures for teens, such as painting and minor construction in the Galapagos Islands to helping disabled children in Chinese orphanages. The British Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, Thailand, and Galapagos & Ecuador are just a few of the places you can choose to travel to and donate your time. Broadreach and Academic Treks offer educational summer programs worldwide. Academic Treks is college-accredited summer adventures abroad that include marine biology, language immersion, wilderness and intensive community service courses. Open Houses/Info Sessions
Duke University will hold an Open House on Saturday, Sept. 12th from 8:30am until 4pm.
Appalachian State University’s Open House is Saturday Sept. 19th at 9:00am.
UNC-Asheville will hold an Open House on Saturday, Sept. 26th and on Saturday, Oct. 17th.
NC State University will hold an Open House on Saturday, October 17th from 10am until 2pm. Register at www.ncsu.edu/openhouse.
Wake Forest University will hold their Open Houses on Sept. 25th, Oct. 9th, Oct. 12th, and Nov. 11th. All programs will begin at 9am. Register at www.wfu.edu/admissions.
Washington University in St. Louis will hold an Admissions Information Session on Wednesday, Sept. 30th from 7-8pm at the Courtyard Marriott Raleigh-Durham Airport. No reservations are needed. For more info, you can call 1-800-638-0700.
