O'Neal Holds Spring NHS Inductions
Fifteen O’Neal Upper School students were inducted into the National Honor Society on Thursday, April 28th.
During the ceremony, current members presented each of the four characteristics of membership: scholarship, leadership, service and character. Students must demonstrate excellence in these areas, in addition to maintaining a certain grade point average to be considered for the National Honor Society. The standard GPA for induction to the National Honor Society is 3.0; however The O’Neal School requires a 3.60 GPA for consideration.
New inductees are: Class of 2017: Christopher Vamvakias; Class of 2018: Claire Conti, Paschal Curlin, Fiona Duffy, Jenna Elliott, Hanna Fitzgerald, Ellie Henry, Drex Lindsey, Alex Marin (Sanford), Mary McMurray, Riley Meese, Elizabeth Moore (Sanford), Kyley Paules, Sophia Renner, Joseph Tozzi (Sanford).
O’Neal Head of School John Elmore, addressed the Upper School student body. He talked about the need to develop a growth mindset – the belief that intelligence and abilities are not fixed but can be developed and expanded through dedication and hard work. “As we approach problems or hurdles, we need to try new strategies and seek input and ideas until we get it right,” says Elmore. “…It’s like training the muscles of your brain and determination.”
