Seventh Grade Students Demonstrate Balloon Power

The 7th grade science students participated in an engineering competition designed by Mr. Grayson and Mr. Williamson.  They were asked to design and construct a vehicle that would be based on Newton’s 3rd Law of motion.  Two 9 inch balloons were the only sources of power they were allowed to have, and the vehicles had to travel a minimum of 1.5 meters.  In Mr. Williamson’s class, Zoie Howes constructed the winning vehicle that completed the 1.5 meter course fastest while also traveling the furthest total distance of 6.22 meters.  Mr. Grayson’s class used the first set of races as research opportunities and they will be building their vehicles in the near future.
