O'Neal Welcomes Author Alan Gratz

Monday, O'Neal was excited to have author Alan Gratz come to visit again this year.
Through a partnership with the Country Bookshop, Alan Gratz, award winning author of SAMURAI SHORTSTOP, THE BROOKLYN NINE and PRISONER B-3087 presented his newest book CODE of HONOR as well as some of his older books to Middle and Lower School students in the Hannah Center Theater. Alan discussed the writing process and answered students' questions.  Students were able to order books through the Country Bookshop and have them autographed following the presentation.  

Afterwards, Mr. Gratz visited both 7th grade English classes. 
The students had many questions to ask him about the writing process and the organization of a novel. They were also curious about the amount of time it takes to write and edit a book. Alan said it takes him about a year and nine months to go from outline to draft to five or more rewrites, which consume more time than the writing itself. "Seventh graders were so totally inspired that some of them started writing as soon as Alan left the classroom!" says teacher Kristie Wolferman.
