O'Neal Announces Plan for the New School Year

John Elmore, Head of School
The O’Neal School is committed to delivering our mission and full educational experience to students and families for the 2020 – 21 academic year. The O’Neal experience is deeply rooted in on-campus programming, and our first day of school remains August 11th.

Below is the link for The O’Neal School Plan for School Year 2020/2021. It is titled, Navigating Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and outlines our plans to be together, on campus, as a school community. We will practice proper safety measures and do what we must to care for the wellbeing of everyone. The health and safety of our students, teachers and staff has been and will continue to be the overriding priority in our planning and reopening of campus.

O’Neal has long had a full-time nurse and maintenance staff, and we have added a custodian for campus-wide cleaning and sanitizing throughout the school day. We have acquired materials, such as hand sanitizer stations, distance thermometers and cleaning supplies, to meet the needs of the nearly 500 people on campus. With everything in place and with a large campus and five separate buildings to meet social distancing requirements, O’Neal is in an excellent position to open and remain open for in-person teaching and learning.

During the last several months, I have spoken to many of our families, and it is clear to me that The O’Neal School community wants to be together, and we will always prioritize options to assure that time away from campus is minimized. In the attached Plan, three learning models, On-Campus, Hybrid and Virtual are outlined; however, we will only have students learning away from campus in response to state or local mandates.
