The O’Neal School was pleased to host a visit from faculty members of NanfangHigh School in the Hunan Province of China on Wednesday, May 14th. O’Neal Head of School John Elmore visited areas near Changsha and Beijing with the Carolina China Council over the O’Neal’s spring break. He visited several schools and spent a lot of time with teachers and students. The ZhuzhouForeignLanguageSchool and The O’Neal School are collaborating with NanfangHigh School in the areas of culture and curriculum as it is a part of a K-12 educational consortium. Nanfang faculty members visited O’Neal for almost a whole school day as a part of their trip through mid-atlantic and southern states.
The group was treated to student tours, visits to UpperSchool classes, and a traditional southern barbeque lunch. The visitors were able to interview O’Neal’s current Chinese students and ended their visit with activities with Middle School students.
“The relationship with ZhuzhouLanguageSchool and NanfangHigh School is truly a cooperative one, states John Elmore. “We hope to host a few of their students for a short visit in the coming school year and ideally, we will find a way for some of our faculty to visit their school as well.”
O’Neal is working with the Carolina China Council to participate in the initiative to expand the School’s international academic and cultural program. Currently, O’Neal has two Chinese students enrolled this year. Four Chinese students have been enrolled to O’Neal for the 2014/2015 school year, and they too will participate fully in all O’Neal student academic and social programs. The School plans to expand its program into other countries in the near future.
