Record Attendance at The O'Neal Heritage Festival

A record attendance was had at O’Neal’s 3rd annual Heritage Festival on Wednesday, April 17th in the Hannah Center Gymnasium. Thirteen countries/heritages were represented as O'Neal families, the Upper School International Club, and the Rankin Museum joined to display many cultures by way of activities, information and/or food. This year, France was represented by O’Neal’s visiting French middle school students and their advisors and they served authentic crepes and shared many traditional French recipes. The line remained long during the entire two-hour festival at India where, O’Neal parent, Dr. Tania Paul showcased her talent with henna tattoos. Countries/Cultures featured were: Native American, Ireland, India, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Colombia, Isle of Man, China, Jewish culture, and France.

Lower School students were issued a "passport" as they entered the festival. They got their passport "stamped"  at each booth by participating in an activity or answering questions about the culture. When they visited all of the booths and their passport was full, they got to select a prize.

The refreshment stand was a Paris café, complete with pink lemonade.

In addition to thanking all who represented a country/culture, much appreciation goes to the O’Neal students and parents who signed up to help greet and manage the refreshment stand and photo booth. Many thanks to O’Neal’s Juan Rojas for painting the photo booth and providing at great image for the festival on t-shirts. Lastly, a heartfelt thankyou goes to O’Neal parent and faculty member, Sara Carran for helping to coordinate this festival for all three years.
