"Pink Out" for Breast Cancer Awareness

Lulu Brase, Director of Student Life
A beautiful October afternoon turned pink all over campus in celebration of Breast Cancer this fall at O’Neal. Under the leadership of senior Haley Sager, the Falcon athletic teams and ONV Key Club paired together to host a “Pink Out” for the Tennis, Soccer and Volleyball games complete with food trucks and festive activities for all ages.

Through donations, t-shirt sales, and concessions sales, over $700 was raised for the Cancer CARE Fund through the Foundation of First Health. First Health of the Carolinas serves patients ranging from Pinehurst to Raeford, Rockingham, Sanford and surrounding counties, as it has some of the most effective treatment in the state. The donations continue to support First Health Hospital’s research, preventative measures, and treatment efforts for all those impacted by breast cancer.

Senior Haley Sager has worked and planned for this event since her junior year, where the original Pink Out games were altered by hurricane Dorian. Now a senior, Haley was eager to see her efforts brought to fruition. After the event, she reflected, "I have always loved athletic events at O'Neal and when the idea arose in the summer of 2018, I had no idea that the O'Neal Pink Out would be such a huge event. By giving back to our community we learn new things that we do not get inside of a classroom and this is the perfect way to recognize and acknowledge those with breast cancer and their families who are both apart of our O'Neal community and larger community."

Looking across campus on October 10th, Falcons of all ages sporting Pink and supporting the cause, highlights just another fantastic Falcon moment at The O’Neal School.
