Mary Elaine Meyer O'Neal Garden is Dedicated

A dedication ceremony was held for the Mary Elaine Meyer O’Neal Garden on Thursday among founding families and Mrs. O’Neal’s daughter Heidi Hall Jones. In 1971, Mary Elaine Meyer O’Neal gifted 20 acres of land to the founding group as a location for the school and requested that the school be named in honor of her late husband, Wallace O’Neal. Her daughter Heidi Hall Jones later gifted 20 more acres to the school to create the 40-acre campus that we have today.

The ceremony was presented by Head of School John Elmore along with words from long-time Trustee Stan Bradshaw. Heidi Hall Jones expressed her gratitude to the school for honoring her mother and noted that her mother saw much pleasure in doing for others.

Trustee and master gardener Dr. Lynda Acker worked with Ms. Jones to create a beautiful garden amidst the existing courtyard between Talls Hall and the Aquatics Center.

As Mr. Elmore concluded in his presentation, Mrs. O’Neal’s gift of land, along with Ms. Hall’s additional gift of acreage has set a perfect environment to provide a quality education to 100’s of students, for almost 50 years.
