Mission Statement

O’Neal is a college preparatory school dedicated to the development of academic excellence, strength of character, and physical well-being of its students in an environment where integrity, self-discipline, and consideration for others are fundamental.

Academic Excellence

Students participate in a demanding preparatory academic program, taught with passion by nurturing and knowledgeable faculty, complemented by extensive co-curricular opportunities.  O’Neal encourages students to reach their fullest intellectual, moral, creative, and physical potential.  As students mature, they assume an increasing responsibility in shaping their own educational experiences.  Accordingly, they develop the initiative, self-reliance, and independence essential for reaching their full potential and for making the most of their years at O’Neal and beyond. They learn to adapt to a changing world and, more importantly, to initiate change when needed.

Character

The O’Neal experience is based on mutual respect and personal integrity.  All members of the community are expected to honor the rights of others, to conduct themselves in a moral and decent manner, and to see this responsibility as an integral part of their lives at O’Neal as citizens of the community and of the world.  The foundation of this belief is the Honor Code that sets the ethical standard underlying every dimension of school life.

Relationships/Community

O’Neal encourages close personal relationships among parents, faculty, students and staff.  These relationships create an atmosphere of trust and support in which students see independence, initiative, and imagination as the means to pursue self-discovery, develop qualities of leadership, and affirm a sense of self worth.  Students give freely of their time and talents, mindful of how these contributions enhance the quality of school life for the entire community.

Physical Well-Being

O’Neal values physical wellness of its students and staff. A complete physical education curriculum and an extra-curricular athletic program emphasize sportsmanship, self-discipline, teamwork, commitment, school spirit and participation. At O’Neal, a coach is a teacher first and is concerned that students perform well in the classroom and on the field.

Vision

The O’Neal School is a vibrant community of students, teachers, parents, and administrators. With full enrollment representing the wide diversity of our community, we attract the finest talent among the families we serve and the faculty we employ. In addition to exemplary studies in language arts, social studies, mathematics, and sciences, our students participate actively in performing and visual arts, athletics, clubs, and community service.

Our school and facilities are the finest in the area, and our students learn through collaboration and team building both inside the classroom and outside in the natural beauty of our 40-acre campus. Our faculty guide and educate our students with individualized and inspiring curricula from Pre-K through 12th grade, and our students go on to attend distinguished colleges and universities within the United States and abroad.

Our alumni are talented leaders in an extraordinarily wide range of fields, and they contribute actively to society. Our families and other stakeholders give generously to The O’Neal School, and we are building an enduring campus to support our mission. Through what we do and who we are, The O’Neal School plays a unique, significant, and important role in the Sandhills community.
The O'Neal School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, or religion in the administration of admissions, educational policies, financial aid, loan programs, athletic programs, or other activities.
