Middle School

At The O’Neal School’s Middle School, we strive to meet students’ needs and to provide opportunities for them to grow as a whole child. Each day our students are welcomed into their advisory where they hear about the happenings of the school day, check-in with their advisors and fellow classmates, and grow as a community.  Middle school advisors serve as a liaison between home and school.

Our  advisors foster  relationships  with  students  where  they are known, nurtured, and encouraged.  Advisory class periods include an opportunity to grow in student skills and social-emotional learning via our partnership with The Social Institute.

Students in grades 5 through 8 take classes in the core content areas of math, science, English, and history.  After taking both French and Spanish exploratory language classes in grade 5, students select a language to study beginning in grade 6.  Our core academic classes are enriched via our courses in technology, art, theater, and music.  In addition to meeting the academic, emotional, and artistic needs of our students, we support their physical growth through physical education in grade 5 and the choice of physical education or competitive team athletics in grades 6 through 8.

We believe that middle school students are in a stage of development where they are able to build on the knowledge that they have gained and are able to begin to make thoughtful decisions and choices.  Such decision-making comes through practice. Students grow by questioning and learning boundaries as well as by providing appropriate opportunities for mistakes and ultimate growth. This growth mindset allows us to grow as individuals and as a community.

Our teachers provide a dynamic balance of support and challenge for our students.  Students are able to grow in an environment that allows them to develop at their own pace, support each other throughout the learning process, and ultimately become responsible for their learning experiences.  As an O’Neal Falcon, you will be provided the finest level of education, support, and community.
