Admissions and Enrollment

Teacher Recommendation Forms and Transcripts

Teacher recommendation forms and school transcripts need to be sent to The O'Neal School. These forms can be found in the online application or on this page.

Classroom Visit and Readiness Assessment

A classroom visit and readiness assessment are required for all new students. Classroom visits give prospective students the chance to experience a typical day at O'Neal, and for teachers to observe prospective students in the classroom setting. A readiness assessment will be completed during your child's class visit. Please contact the Admissions office at (910) 692-6920 ext. 103 or email to schedule a visit day and assessment. An electronic application must be submitted before scheduling the visit day and assessment.

Admissions Decision

Once the above steps are completed the admissions committee will review the applicants file. Families will be notified once a decision is made. The O’Neal School begins accepting students in February and continues on a rolling basis until all spaces are filled.

Enrollment Agreement

After a student has been accepted the online enrollment agreement must be completed and a non-refundable 10% deposit submitted. This secures your child’s place at The O’Neal School.

Admissions Policies

The O’Neal School is a college preparatory school dedicated to the development of academic excellence, strength of character, and physical well-being of its students in an environment where integrity, self-discipline, and consideration for others are fundamental. The O’Neal School seeks to enroll students who both academically and personally will contribute positively to the mission of the school. O’Neal looks for students with a variety of talents and interests who have a desire to do their best and a willingness to participate.
We are committed to the enrollment of a diverse student body. As a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, O’Neal adheres to the organization’s non-discrimination policies. Applicants are accepted without regard to race, religion, color, creed, national or ethnic origin.
Students must demonstrate the potential to be successful at The O’Neal School based on the applicable elements of the admission process. If school records and testing do not provide a clear assessment, O’Neal may require additional evaluation at the parents’ expense. Please note that any child who will enter kindergarten must be five years of age on or before August 31st of the entering school year.

Additional Considerations

When making admission decisions, the School takes many factors into consideration.
In the admissions process, special consideration is given to the following:
  • Siblings of current or former students
  • Children of alumni
  • Date of application
After a grade level is filled, the School will maintain an applicant pool. If a vacancy occurs, the admissions committee will review the applicants and make a decision.
