O'Neal Holds Graduation
The O’Neal School held its 41st commencement on Friday, May 26th in Owens Auditorium at Sandhills Community College. The commencement was preceded by a baccalaureate service at Brownson Presbyterian Church on Thursday, May 25th.
At commencement, Class Salutatorian Emma Barnes, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Barnes delivered the invocation. Class Valedictorian Jack Hendricks, son of Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Hendricks, and O’Neal Alumnus, David Logan ’86 addressed the graduates. Mr. Logan is the vice president of products and technology at Netsertive, Inc.
The class of 2017, consisting of 38 students, so far has amassed a dollar amount of $2.9M in merit-based scholarships. This includes Christopher Dymond receiving the Levine Scholarship for UNC–Charlotte and Simone Woolley with her appointment to West Point US Military Academy. Students are attending colleges and universities such as Davidson College, University of Virginia, University of Washington, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, UNC Chapel Hill and Washington and Lee University.
Accomplished artist at the high school level, Senior Minke “Eric” Li will be attending the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Seventeen senior student-athletes have received all-conference honors this year and six seniors earned All-State recognition.
