O’Neal International Club Hosts Hunger Banquet
The Sandhills community is invited to the 2018 Oxfam Hunger Banquet hosted by The O’Neal School International Club on Saturday, April 7th at 6:30pm in the Bradshaw Hall Dining Commons.
Oxfam is a global organization created to help find lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and social injustice. Through the Oxfam Hunger Banquet event, O’Neal’s International Club plans to educate attendees with data involving hunger and poverty throughout the world. On entering the event, attendees will draw a ticket, which not only tells the story of a real person from around the world, but also divides them into one of three income levels. Throughout the program, participants will learn more about global hunger issues and will even eat a meal befitting their supposed income level. www.oxfamamerica.org
There is no fee for admission, but donations are strongly encouraged and all proceeds will benefit the Heifer project where the International Club’s mission to raise $500 will go towards bees and livestock to those in need. Since its inception, Heifer International has helped to lift 32 million families out of poverty and into sustainable livelihoods. www.heifer.org
Many local restaurants have helped to make this evening possible and whether you eat a cup of rice or a chicken dinner courtesy of Elliot’s on Linden, it is hoped that you will walk away with a new perspective on the issues confronting the world as a whole.
