Hunger Banquet a Success

Saturday the International Club hosted an Oxfam Hunger Banquet to raise funds for livestock via the Heifer project as well as bees. The goal was $500, but an outstanding $1700 was raised. Close to 70 people attended the banquet and based on the card they drew, they were seated and served as being in the high, middle or low income level. Depending on the level, you were served a multiple course meal (from Elliotts), a bowl of rice with beans or just a cup of rice (seated on the floor).

Prior to the meal, the banquet was honored to have guest speaker Dwight Rickard representing Moore County Beekeepers  to speak about how beekeeping improves the livelihood of widows in African villages. The presentation was followed by Stefan Woolley who offered up some role play for the attendees in understanding how different life situations can affect the income level of families.
