O'Neal Brings Home Medals at State Science Olympiad

O’Neal Middle School Science Olympiad Team traveled to NCSU for the fifth consecutive year April 20-21st. This year there were 230+ middle school teams competing in Science Olympiad from the state of NC. O’Neal ended the year ranked 39th in the State – advancing 3 places from last year. The highlight of the tournament was that O’Neal brought home individual medals in TWO events! Congratulations to 8th graders Timmy Edelman and Eland Miller for a 9th place finish in Road Scholar AND to 6th graders Lauren Kuhn and Macy Cheek for also a 9th place finish in Roller Coaster!

Also, special recognition goes to the only 5th grade varsity team member Penn Morris. “Although he did not medal in his event, Wright Stuff, his IMPRESSIVE 13th place in the state of NC competing against many 9th graders is a testimonial to his timeless work ethic and overwhelming excitement of science! A FIRST PLACE finish in my book!” says Coach Boyd Grayson. “Each year our team improves, and we gain valuable experience in the competitive Science Olympiad arena.”

Next year the program will expand to all three divisions spanning from elementary grades through high school.
