The Student Forum - Coming Fall 2018

O’Neal is very excited to announce a shift of student leadership in 5th through 12th grade. Both the Upper and Middle Schools will adopt Student Forums for the 2018-19 school year. The Student Forum will provide the Middle and Upper School students the opportunity to gain valuable leadership skills as the School continues to provide students with an ability to have a voice and ownership in impacting positive change across campus.

In the Middle School, the Student Forum will be based on grade level representatives. Each grade, 5th through 8th will have three total representatives, one elected from each advisory. These elections will occur in the Fall of 2018. Prior to elections, all Middle School students will engage in lessons within their classes on speech writing, public speaking skills, and overall discussion of leadership traits and characteristics.

In the Upper School, the Student Forum will be led by an executive board comprised of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Joining the executive board on the Student Forum will be four class officers per grade: President, Vice President, and two class representatives (one male and one female).

The Upper School Student Forum has begun to take shape as the executive board speeches and voting have taken place. The 2018-2019 Student Forum will be led by, President Bennett Moore, Vice President Sarah McInnis, Treasurer Ryan Ritter-Diosdado, and Secretary Stefan Wolley. In the coming weeks, there will be elections for class leaders, and the class representatives will be elected in the fall of 2018.

Ultimately, the Student Forum is an exciting change in student leadership in both divisions for next year. In both Middle and Upper School, everyone is looking forward promoting and building strong, confident student leaders and empowering them to enhance the O’Neal student life experience.
