O’Neal’s Ralayah McRae Commits to Bluefield College for Basketball

O’Neal senior Ralayah McRae has committed to Bluefield College to play for the Rams Women’s Basketball team. McRae is excited to begin her college journey sharing, “I chose Bluefield because it has a great student to teacher ratio, it is a Christian School which allows me to stay rooted in my faith, and when I was on campus I immediately felt the family environment both in the academics and with the basketball team.”

Over her three years at The O’Neal School, McRae has seen the basketball program make tremendous strides. In her senior campaign, McRae served as a team captain and defensive anchor leading the team in steals. Her leadership was instrumental in the Falcons bringing home the Tri TAC regular season and tournament championships along with finishing as NCISAA 2A State Runners Up. In addition to the team success, McRae added individual awards to her resume twice being named to the all-conference team in her junior and senior seasons, as well as, being selected for the prestigious North Carolina Private School Senior All- Star Basketball game.

“Ralayah has truly left her mark on our basketball program during her three years at O’Neal,” shared Lulu Brase, O’Neal varsity basketball coach. “Ralayah brings a gritty determination and fight to everything she does. As a lone senior this year, she brought our team together and reminded us all that when we play with passion, resilience, and a will to compete anything is possible. This season has been a terrific culmination of her hard work and dedication to the process over the last three years. It has been a tremendous pleasure coaching Ralayah, and I’m excited to see all that Ralayah will accomplish athletically and academically at Bluefield.”

Along with her successes on the basketball court, McRae has been a part of the Varsity Volleyball and Track and Field teams during her time at O’Neal. Demonstrating success as a multi-sport athlete McRae also earned All-Conference honors in volleyball and All-Conference and All-State recognition in Track and Field.

Bluefield College is a private Christian liberal arts college in the Appalachian Mountains of southwestern Virginia. The Rams are an NAIA Division 1 member and compete in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
