The Falcon continue to show improvement!
Varsity Girls Golf
The Lady Falcon's golf team play great this week in matches vs Pinecrest HS and St. Davids School. On Tuesday, the ladies set a new record with a team total of 118 (counting top three scores). Nicole Adam and Alex Lapple paced the Falcons with a pair of 35's and Mary Earhart turned in her best performance of the year with a 48. Lauren Kuhn - 51, Molly Haarlow - 55, and Kristin Howell - 63. Pinecrest was the host school, so officially, they count 4 scores so the match ended in a tie 169-169. In private school scoring we count just 3 scores. It was an awesome result for the Lady Falcons! On Wednesday, the Lady Falcons turned right around and competed vs. St Davids School and posted another 118. Alex Lapple led O'Neal with a 35. Nicole Adam shot 36, Lauren Kuhn carded a 47, Mary Earhart and Molly Haarlow each shot 50. Kristin Howell and Lily Barnwell each broke 60 for the first time this year posting a 58 and 59 respectively. The Lady Falcons won the match 118-146. Next week we host Durham Academy, who is currently ranked #1 in the 1A state rankings. It should be a great match on Wednesday on Pinehurst #7.

Middle School Volleyball
Game at SJP II—Split 1-1
Match #1—(25-18, 12-25, 15-11)
Match #2—(22-25, 23-25)

The Falcons opened the week at local conference school SJP II and split the two matches. Working to shake off the rust from a week of class trips the Falcons couldn’t quite connect enough serves in the second match to bring home to second victory. Long rallies and great scrambling saves showed the Falcons never quitting until the final whistle blew.

Game at Fayetteville Academy—Win 2-0
Match #1—(25-9, 25-9)
Match #2—(23-25, 25-23, 16-14)

Wednesday afternoon the Falcons returned to the court against Fayetteville Academy, which featured a battle of servers. The Falcons were led by Michaela Stone’s powerful serves leading to a turn around during a slow start to the second match. Overall the highlight of the afternoon saw each Falcon in uniform score a point for the Falcon either through their serve or an attack. It was a great team victory!

Game at Northwood Temple—Win 2-0
Match #1—(25-19, 25-8)
Match #2—(25-18, 25-10)

The Falcons wrapped up their week on the road with a strong showing at Northwood Temple. Sickness led to a shortened roster, but the Falcons didn’t let the adversity slow their momentum. Olivia Antil led the way on the afternoon compiling over 20 service aces in the two matches.

The week’s matches bring the Falcons to 13-3 in conference play with four matches left in the regular season. The Falcons kick off Fall Spirit week on Monday with a home contest against Liberty Christian School. Match #1 will begin at 3:30pm in Tate Gym.

JV Volleyball
O’Neal - 0
Carolina Friends - 2
JV Volleyball hosted Carolina Friends School on Tuesday, September 24th. While the score of the match did not reflect the effort put in by these girls as they rallied and fought in the second set, the excitement I felt watching them play good volleyball did. I am so proud of the growth I am witnessing within our team and I am having an absolute blast learning more and more about each of our athletes every day!

In the week ahead, JV Volleyball will face Pinecrest High School on Monday, September 30th at Pinecrest starting at 5pm, Burlington Christian on Wednesday, October 2nd at 4pm in the Hannah Center and Grace Sanford on Thursday, October 3rd at 4pm, also in the Hannah Center.

Varsity Volleyball
vs. Carolina Friends School Tuesday-September 24th
The O'Neal School 2 (game #1 = 25-23; game #4 = 25-16)
Carolina Friends School 3 (game #2 = 25-18 ; game #3 = 25-17; game #5 = 15-7)

Our Lady Falcons hosted conference opponent Carolina Friends School on our home court this past Tuesday. We came out strong, easily winning the first match of the night with high energy, hustle, big blocks and consistently powerful serves. Senior Rachel Patton won 11 straight points with her quick, slightly over the net, diving serve. The next two matches proved challenging, as we found ourselves working our way out of a deficit. Our ladies would rally, and fight every point, however our rallies came too late. As we entered the 4th match, our Lady Falcons stood strong, with intensity and focus, targeting one point at a time. We came out on top with consistent, smart serves, especially by Junior Holly Pashley, high blocks and hard attacks by Junior Mikaila Waldo. Despite our quality performance and BIG moments, the evening tipped in favor of Carolina Friends, as they won the 5tha nd final match. Regardless, it was a strong stance vs. a top conference team. Our O'Neal Varsity Team is the one and only team to take Carolina Friends to 5 matches in one game. Many in our crowd felt it was some of the BEST Varsity Volleyball playing seen in years.

Lady Varsity Volleyball will return to the court, competing at Pinecrest High Monday, September 30th @5:15pm and at home Wednesday, October 2nd @5:15pm against Burlington Christian Academy, followed by a home game on Thursday against Grace Christian of Sanford.  Please come support us!
