New Initiative for Campus Safety

As Director of Safety and Security Tim Wenzel announced during Division Back-to-School Nights, access to O’Neal’s buildings are being regulated by a new door lock system. This action has been taken as part of an initiative to provide a safer environment for O’Neal students and faculty.

“O’Neal has always felt open and safe for our students and families, and we wanted to maintain what makes the campus special while maximizing safety,” says Head of School John Elmore. “The ID’s for middle and upper students allow them to maintain the full access to the campus they now enjoy.”

All middle and upper school students have been issued ID’s with special sensors to allow them into the school buildings. Starting Monday, November 4th – all doors will be locked, with exception to the main entrances. Main entrances will also be locked in the near future requiring visitors to be buzzed in. ID’s are carried on lanyards – Red or Blue – identifying the student as being on the red team or the blue team corresponding with the year-long Red/Blue Challenge.

It is costly to replace lost IDs. Parents are encouraged to help their students establish a location and process for hanging on to their ID’s throughout the school year. If there are questions about the new system, feel free to email Tim Wenzel for more information.
