Dr. Beth Stevens Speaks on Disney Conservation Efforts
O’Neal Upper School and Middle School students were fortunate to hear from Dr. Beth Stevens, former senior VP of environmental affairs at Disney Worldwide Services at the Upper School morning meeting on Thursday. Dr. Stevens was introduced by her good friend and neighbor, Dr. Lynda Acker – O’Neal parent and former trustee.
Dr. Stevens touched on the sustainability efforts that Disney had in place from emissions control, reducing waste and conserving water. She then focused most of her talk on Disney’s efforts towards nature conservation and its 20+ years of protecting wildlife and wild places through the Disney Conservation Fund.

Dr. Stevens has a PhD in biology, worked at Zoo Atlanta in the beginning of her career, served as president of the American Zoological Association, was hired by Disney where she ran Animal Kingdom for many years, led the Disney Corporate Citizenship Division after that, received the prestigious Rachel Carson Award, and now, after retirement, chairs the Jane Goodall Institute.
Beth is also very active locally, especially in her role as president of the Village Heritage Foundation, which her mother founded.
