Dr. Simpson Talks to 3rd Grade About the Heart

O'Neal parent and local cardiologist, Dr. Patrick Simpson, visited Ms. Imbs’ and Mrs. Hubbard’s third grade students to speak about the human heart as the students conclude their study of the human body. Dr. Simpson explained how the heart is an organ that is part of the circulatory system. He identified the chambers and valves of the heart explaining its purpose. He showed the tools used to place a stint in the heart and touched on heart disease and how to slow or reduce the chances of heart disease. He concluded by showing students an ultrasound of a beating heart, courtesy of Evan Imbs (Ms. Imbs’ son).
