Pelagics Compete in State Age Group Meet

O'Neal Pelagics swimmers competed in the 2020 North Carolina Swimming Short Course Age Group Championships February 13-16 at the Greensboro Aquatics Center. Thirteen Pelagics worked to bring the year-round swim club to 23rd place among NC Swimming organizations. This is the highest position so far for the 18-month-old Pelagics team.  
 
Representing the 13 & 14 age group, state participants were Daniel Park, Emma Flanagan, Alexis Coates, Maddie Flanagan and Faithlyn Volitis. Representing the 10U group were Grant Larsen, Lily Grieve and Radford Walker, who all qualified in individual events. Relay participants were Juliet Kaczorowski, Colette LovsinNyah Tranel, John Flanagan, and Owen Allen. Grant Larsen placed 15th in the 50 free and 16th in the 100 free scoring points for the team. Lily Grieve scored a staggering 100 points for the Pelagics and is the teams first ever age group State Champion, winning the 100 fly with a time of 1:06.32. She placed 2nd in the 50 fly, 3rd in 200 Freestyle, 5th in the 50 Free and 100 IM, 6th in the 100 Free, and 11th in the 200 IM. Lily Grieve helped bring the team to its highest place to date at 23rd place. 
 
The O'Neal Pelagics is a year-round USA Swimming certified swim club. Its home is the Aquatics Center at Taws Hall at The O'Neal School. One does not have to be an O'Neal student to join the club. The head coach is Aquatics Director Jen Schmitz. For more information visit www.ONealSchool.org.
