Falcon spring sports starts strong!

Middle School Golf
MS Golf opened their season with an internal match between their Navy Team and Falcon Team. The Navy team were lead by Jake Shepherd who earned the medalist award for the match with a 9 hole score of 41. The Falcon team had Jack Halloran lead the way with a score of 43. The Navy team won the team spoils with a 188-194 overall match win.

Middle School Girls Soccer
2-1 victory over Northwood Temple
1-0 v
ictory over Freedom Christian

The middle school soccer team had a fantastic week, winning both of their games to improve their record to 2-1.  In the first game of the week against Northwood Temple, O’Neal went down 1-0 before fighting back to tie the game before halftime.  A late own goal by Northwood Temple gave O’Neal the winning score.  To keep the ball away from O’Neal’s high pressing forwards, the goalie for Northwood Temple carried the ball back across her line after making a goal-line save.  Strong team defending and excellent goalkeeping preserved the victory.

In the second game of the week, O’Neal dominated play against Freedom Christian, keeping the ball in Freedom Christian’s half for the majority of the game.  An injury left the Falcons without any subs in the second half, and the girls continued to show their grit and toughness by fighting through that difficult situation.  After immense amounts of pressure, O’Neal managed to capitalize on a bouncing ball in front of Freedom’s goal to take a 1-0 lead, and then strong defending prevented Freedom from generating any shots after that point.

Next week the girls host Village Christian on Monday at 3:30.

Middle School Baseball
The O'Neal baseball team went 2-0 this week with a 15-0 win over Northwood Temple and a 19-4 win over Fayetteville Christian.  Jake Shepherd pitched a no hitter against Northwood Temple, and Will Slagle led the team at the plate going 2-3 with a homerun, triple and 5 RBI's.
Against Fayetteville Christian Academy, it was a collective group effort with another strong pitching performance from Jake Shepherd and the defensive play of the game by Spencer Lincicome.

Varsity Boys Tennis
The boys tennis team had a good week of practice and was ready for the match on Thursday. Unfortunately, the rain kept us from playing, but we will even more ready for our first match of the season.

Varsity Track & Field
After a great week of training, the team traveled to Ravenscroft School to compete against Ravenscroft School and Trinity Academy of Raleigh.  Although our team has a good stock of veteran athletes, there were quite a few newbies to the track and field scene.  In all, O’Neal had 40 athletes competing in today’s events.  Some of them exceeded their own expectations by running faster times than their last meet of last season.  The team’s throwers and jumpers, most of them new, also put up some pretty competitive numbers.  We will not have the final results until Friday afternoon but in all, each person on this team improved and are very excited to get back to work.

Varsity Girls Soccer
The girls had a tough loss in a hard fought game, but they played well. The team is improving and we’re looking forward to games in the coming weeks.
