Summer PE Make-Up Classes Held

Swimming has been a part of O’Neal’s physical education curriculum for more than forty years. Learning to swim is an important life skill and O’Neal is passionate about it. With the campus closure at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, O’Neal’s swim staff brainstormed ways to make up for those lost swim PE classes. As soon as North Carolina moved into a Safer At Home “Phase 2” of easing certain COVID-19 restrictions, make-up PE Classes were offered to O’Neal rising 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students. The group sessions were free of charge with no more than nine swimmers per class. The instructor is Coach Jen Schmitz. She is the director of O’Neal Aquatics, head coach of the year-round swim team, The O’Neal Pelagics, and head coach of O’Neal’s varsity swim team. They are currently nearing the end of their 6 weekly 30-minute sessions.
