O'Neal Athletics Moves to Phase 2 of "Return to Play" Plan
After approval from NCISAA to move to Phase 2 of "Return to Play Protocols", O'Neal announces plan for Interscholastic Contests.
In an email sent to families of O’Neal student -athletes, it was announced that the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA) has approved the move to Phase 2 of its “Return to Play Protocols”.

Athletics will move to Plan A – Interscholastic Athletics described in the Athletics Plan for 2020/2021 on Monday – August 31st.
For Varsity/JV Sports:
- Fall Sports teams will move to 5 days a week program
- Winter Sports Trainings (Mondays) and Spring Sports Trainings (Tuesdays) have been to focus on a more regular Fall Season
- NCISAA permits Low Risk Sports Contests to begin September 8th and Moderate Risk Sports Contests to begin September 14th
- O’Neal will start Low Risk Sports Contests on September 17, 2020
- (Cross Country, Tennis and Golf)
- O’Neal will start Moderate Risk Sports Contests on September 25, 2020
- (Soccer and Volleyball)
- NCISAA Rules – No Spectators Permitted at Events
- For Any Sports - VB, Tennis, XC and Soccer
For Middle School Sports:
- Fall Middle School Sports teams will continue its 5 days a week program
- NCISAA permits Moderate Risk Sports Contests to begin September 14
- O’Neal will start Moderate Risk Sports Contests after September 24, 2020
- (Middle School Soccer and Middle School Volleyball)
- NCISAA Rules – No Spectators Permitted at Events
- For Any Sports - VB, Tennis, XC and Soccer
Mitigating measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus will continue to be in place as far as mask wearing, social distancing (including on transportation to and from events), sanitizing of spaces, temperature and wellness checks of all student-athletes, coaches and officials (home and away teams). Unfortunately, the NCISAA will not allow spectators at home or away events, including parents and family members, at both indoor and outdoor events. The School must abide by this mandate to prevent forfeiture.
O’Neal Athletics has spent months planning for multiple scenarios. While this is the NCISAA’s current directive – this remains a fluid situation and things could change again. O’Neal will continue to be guided by their decisions as well as the School’s own safety and risk management protocols.
The Athletics Program gives its sincere appreciation to student-athletes and their families. While this hasn’t been an easy Fall, their unwavering and positive support is truly appreciated.
