Fall Senior Student-Athletes Recognized

Lulu Brase
O’Neal Athletics has had the pleasure of celebrating eight tremendous members of the Class of 2021. In a year of uncertainty, each one of these seniors has provided their team leadership, positivity, and determination. They have brought enthusiasm to the courts and trails daily, making lasting memories in their final Fall seasons.

Although the Class of 2021 is small in numbers, these Senior Falcons have had their share of outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and on the playing fields. From individual conference and state championships to team semi-final runs, the Class of 2021 has made their mark on each respective fall sports program. Athletic Director James Franklin reflected on the fall senior student-athletes sharing, “During the pandemic our seniors have stepped up, and we’re proud of their leadership and overall play. They have also contributed significantly to O’Neal’s athletic program over their four-year careers, and their presence will be missed next year.”

The festivities began last week, as the cross country program honored seniors, Molly Kuzma and Matthew Ryals. Next, the volleyball program celebrated five members of the Class of 2021 on Wednesday night as Grace Edrington, Taylor Edrington, Kayla Jenkins, Holly Pashley, and Mikaila Waldo battled it out on the court for their final home match in the Hannah Center gym. Lastly, the tennis program held festivities for their lone senior, Téa Waldt, on Thursday evening in their home match against Trinity School of Durham.

The Class of 2021 has so much to be proud of both on and off the court. O’Neal is excited to see their continued leadership as all three programs head towards postseason play in the upcoming days, and throughout the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. Congratulations Molly, Matthew, Grace, Taylor, Holly, Mikaila, and Téa on a tremendous fall season!
