Middle School Swim AND Varsity Swim
The O’Neal Falcons men’s swim team had a fast and victorious first meet of the season. The men's team tied 75-75 against the Moore County Marlins and beat Capadanno High School 99-30. This was true team effort with many middle school swimmers stepping up and taking on challenging events. The men had state qualifying times in every event. This type of depth strength the Falcons have not had in years. 7th grader Sam Schmitz qualified in the 200 free, 8th grader Alex Grimshaw qualified in the 200 IM, Junior Jace Brown in the 50 free, Senior Tim Richardson in the 100 fly, Jace Brown in the 100 free, John Shepherd in the 500 free, John Shepherd and Alex Grimshaw in the 100 back, Tim Richardson in the 100 breast. Falcon men are off to an exceptional start.

The Lady Falcons cruised to victory in their meet yesterday. What the team lacked in depth they made up for with fast swimming and some surprising swims from the middle schoolers. They beat Moore County Marlins 76-71 and beat Capadanno 99-22. State qualifiers were, Senior Molly Kuzma 200 Free, Freshman Alexis Coates 200 IM, 7th grader Jordin Reed 50 free, Molly Kuzma 100 Fly, Alexis Coates 500 fr, and Micheala Stone 100 backstroke.

Varsity Cheer
This week was busy even though there was only one night of games. Athletes learned all of the stand cheers and we have started incorporating jump conditioning, stretch conditioning and core training into every practice. We have also started learning a new half-time routine that we will perform starting at games in December. All in all, I am incredibly impressed with the dedication and the enthusiasm that all of the girls put into every practice, no matter what I throw at them!

Middle School Girls Basketball
This week, our Lady Falcons got a break from game action.  In a week without games, the Lady Falcons were able to get in some quality practice time to include a valuable performance room session.  Following next week’s Thanksgiving break, the Lady Falcons will be back in action with an away game against Fayetteville Christian School on Monday, 30 November and a home game on Friday, 4 December against Thales Academy of Apex.

The Falcons kicked off the week hosting St. Thomas More at the Hannah Center Monday evening. The Falcons wasted no time jumping to the lead through high pressure full court defensive forcing St. Thomas More into 27 turnovers on the night. The Falcon attack was led by junior Caelan McHarney who finished with a game-high 23 points, 7 steals, and 5 rebounds. Joining McHarney was 8th grader Ashanti Fox who added 17 points to go with 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

The Falcons extended their lead out of halftime by relentlessly attacking the glass and converting offensive rebounds into 8 second chance points in the third quarter. Senior Kayla Jenkins led the Falcon rebounding effort tallying 7 rebounds to add to her 6 points on the evening. In the end, the Falcon defensive pressure and team rebounding was too much for St. Thomas More as the Falcons pulled away winning 56-37 to move to 2-0 on the season.

The Falcons return to the court on Friday, November 20th as they head to Rocky Mount Academy for a 4:30pm.

Middle School Boys Basketball B Team
Middle School Boys Basketball B Team had a strong week of practices, running their offense in 5 on 5 situations and learning the Man to Man defensive rotation that the team will use.  They are excited for their first game of the season when they return from break!

Upcoming Game:
12/4, Home at 4:30 against Thales Academy

Varsity Boys Basketball
The Falcons have jumped out to a 1-1 start on the season. Last Friday, Statesville Christian Academy came in and played well enough to get the win 48-53. The Falcons were cold from the field and just couldn't get any momentum going on the offensive end of the floor.  The Falcons held the lead at halftime 29-25, then had the lead 39-37 at the end of the third quarter. Statesville Christian outscored the Falcons by 6 in the final quarter to take the win.

On Monday evening the Falcons played with a lot of determination and passion. They ended up with a 61-30 victory over visiting St. Thomas More Academy of Raleigh. The Falcons used a full court man to man defense to gain the lead and just never let up. It was a great win for a team that is still learning to play with each other. There have certainly been some big bright spots in the first two games.
Next Up the Falcons travel to Rocky Mount Academy on Friday evening for a 6:00 tip.
