Third Grade Builds Dream Homes

Third grade students conducted an applied math project using area and perimeter by designing their own dream house. They planned the rooms as well as furniture and accessories for each room. They then calculated the area and perimeter for the rooms, the furniture and the space left over. The project allowed them the opportunity to apply math skills to real life concepts. As they were planning, they had to think logically about designing a room for its purpose and how furniture will fit into the space.
