Falcon Day Camp Adds Mini-Explorers

The Explorers division of O’Neal’s Falcon Day Camp has added a new segment targeted to children in grade levels prek3 to kindergarten called Mini-Explorers. This half-day program is designed as an introduction to camp, running from 8:30am -11:30am. Though the Mini-Explorers will share the same themes as the Explorers, field trips, special visitors, and activities will be tailored to accommodate a half-day program schedule as well as the younger age group. The day will consist of morning snack, arts and crafts, games, songs, outdoor activities, and water play! Themes will include: Creature Feature Week, Food Frenzy Week, Wild Adventure Week, Shark Attack Week, Water Water Everywhere Week, Glowing Glowing Gone Week. Campers may attend a one-week session or a 3-week session as Mini-Explorers is offered 3 weeks in June and 3 weeks in July. For an additional fee, Mini-Explorers also have the option to take a swimming lesson from 12:00pm to 12:35pm after camp (and lunch). Falcon Discovery Swim School offers micro-size classes at four different levels depending on the skill of the swimmer.

Joining the Falcon Day Camp staff this year is Lauren Hunt. She is the director of the Explorers division and she will be overseeing the Mini-Explorers segment. Lauren is presently a learning specialist with the Academic Enrichment Program in O’Neal’s Lower School. She has also taught kindergarten at O’Neal. She has been involved with running camps for many years on O’Neal’s campus.

For more than 40 years, Falcon Day Camp has been a staple day camp offering to the community on O’Neal’s campus. Through the years the program has grown. Due to demand and need, three years ago the Falcon Explorers segment was added, catering to grade levels kindergarten through first grade. With the addition of Mini-Explorers, the Falcon Day Camp program is now able to serve students age prek3 through 8th grade with quality age-appropriate activities.

“My son has attended all six weeks of Explorers for the last three summers,” says Jenell Copeland. “It’s a weight off my shoulders to know he is in a fun-filled yet safe and nurturing environment during his summers. The staff and counselors are attentive and engaged, and he looks forward to spending time with the “older” kids, many of whom return summer after summer to work.  The weekly field trips and special events, such as Yoga, glow parties, and a visit to an Ostrich farm, has been a bonus!”

O’Neal is an independent, college preparatory school for pre-kindergarten age 3 through grade 12. Through its O’Neal Summer Fun program, day camps and specialty camps focusing on sports, STEM, the arts, enrichment and academics as well as swimming programs offer the community a variety of youth activities throughout the summer. Before and After Camp Care is also available. Register for camps or swimming by May 31st and receive $10 off of each registered program. Go to www.ONealSchool.org for more information.
