From the Head of School

Steve Lisk, Interim Head of School

The O’Neal School is pleased to welcome Steve Lisk as Interim Head of School for the 2025–2026 academic year. With more than 34 years of experience in independent school education, Mr. Lisk brings a steady hand, deep expertise, and a student-centered approach to his leadership at O’Neal.

A native of North Carolina and a Morehead Scholar, Mr. Lisk earned his undergraduate degree from The University of North Carolina and a master’s in American History from North Carolina State University. He began his career at Episcopal High School in Virginia and went on to serve in leadership roles at Kent School in Connecticut and St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Florida.

Mr. Lisk spent fourteen years as Head of School at Lancaster Country Day School in Pennsylvania, where he led the school through a period of significant growth and strengthened its academic and community programs. Most recently, he served as Interim Head of School at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Lisk reflects, “Returning to North Carolina to join the O’Neal School is both a professional privilege and a personal joy. O’Neal has a strong sense of purpose, deep community roots, and an exciting vision for the future. I look forward to working alongside students, faculty, parents, and trustees to support the school’s mission in the year ahead.”

We are excited to have Mr. Lisk in Southern Pines and confident that his leadership will bring strength, warmth, and continuity to the O’Neal community.
