O'Neal is excited to have the followoing faculty members join the community! We are fortunate to attract and retain faculty members with both excitement and academic expertise in their fields.
Ms. Cloninger has extensive experience with early childhood education and comes to O’Neal most recently from Monroe Avenue Elementary in Richmond County where she was the Kindergarten Department Chair and the 2018-19 Teachers of the Year. She has also worked in Montessori schools and was an educational specialist for Sandhills Children’s Center. Cassie earned her degree at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and will be teaching Kindergarten.
Ms. Gonzalez joins O’Neal as our PK-5 Spanish teacher. Esther moved from San Francisco where she was most recently at Woodland School. She has also taught in IL and TX and holds degrees from Austin College, Northern Illinois University and Grand Canyon University.
Ms. Haarlow is very familiar with The O’Neal School and will join us as a 1st Grade teacher. Casey has taught in lower schools in GA and TN and comes to us from Pinehurst Elementary where she was named Teacher of the Year in 2017. She earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees at Berry College.
Mr. Haney joins O’Neal’s Middle School in the English Department. He has taught and coached at Greenhill School (TX), St. Andrews Episcopal and McGehee School, both in New Orleans. Tommy earned his B.A. at Austin College and his M.S. at the University of Miami.
Ms. Hilyard comes to O’Neal from Pinehurst Elementary where she served on several committees focused on curriculum development, data evaluation and school improvement. She is trained in Orton-Gillingham reading. Tiffany will be teaching 4th Grade and earned her B.A. at St. Andrews University.
Mr. Poole is a graduate of North Carolina State University, and throughout his career he has taught nearly every upper school science course. He has also coached academic teams, cross-country and swimming. Earle comes to O’Neal from Montgomery County and will teach chemistry and Advanced Placement Chemistry.
Ms. Thomas earned her B.S. degree at the University of Delaware and has taught in a variety of elementary school roles in TN. She is passionate about the STEM fields, has presented to peers in that field and supervised student teachers. Amanda will be teaching Kindergarten.
Ms. Watkins is joining our Middle School and the science department. She has taught and mentored a range of students at the college and secondary levels. Maggie earned her B.S. degree in cell biology and biotechnology from Georgia Gwinnett College and her M.A. from the University of Georgia.
