Happy Veterans Day from Octavious Gibbons '86

Why O’Neal? I had a chance to attend Wallace O’Neal Day School, named at the time, and pursue additional options beyond high school. My dad, Calvin Gibbons, was currently the custodian on the campus. It was truly a transition from Pinecrest High School; however, I was up to the challenge. In addition to attending O’Neal, I also got involved with tennis and soccer- sports I had never played prior, and basketball too. Upon graduation with The O’Neal School Class of 1986, I joined the United States Army and became an Army Paratrooper in the distinguished 82ND Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina (All The Way. Airborne!) I went from jumping out of airplanes to learning how to fly helicopters, airplanes and jets. The after-mentioned achievements came after attending college in Raleigh, NC at Saint Augustine’s University where I received my Bachelor of Science (BS) in Accounting and being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army as a pilot (Aviation Corps). I served my country for 27 years active duty, along with seven tours of combat duties. I can say without hesitation, The O’Neal School helped me become the American Veteran I am today! To all that have served or support the men and women that have... Happy Veterans Day!
