AP Biology Students Finish Biotechnology Unit

AP Biology students just finished a Biotechnology unit that allowed them to learn the advanced techniques necessary to perform Gel Electrophoresis and Bacterial Transformation.  In Gel Electrophoresis, they ran an electric current through a gel to separate artificial DNA sequences and create a DNA fingerprint.  In the Bacterial Transformation lab, the students inserted Jellyfish DNA into E-Coli bacteria which led to the bacteria incorporating that DNA into its own and displaying the green bioluminescent property of the jellyfish.  This can be seen in the picture that has a green glowing circular bacteria colony compared to the normal bacteria colonies in the other pteri dish that are tan.
