In her first novel since winning the Newbery Medal, Katherine Applegate delivers
CRENSHAW (Feiwel & Friends, on sale September 22, 2015), an unforgettable and magical story about family, friendship, and resilience. The One and Only Ivan has spent over 115 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.

In CRENSHAW, readers are introduced to Jackson, a thoughtful fifth grader in a family that has fallen on hard times. There’s no more money for rent, and not much for food, either. His parents, his little sister, and their dog may have to leave their apartment to live in the family minivan, something they’ve already been forced to do once in the past.

Crenshaw is a cat. He’s large, he’s outspoken, and he’s imaginary. Jackson met Crenshaw the first time he lived in the family minivan. As the family’s future becomes increasingly questionable, Crenshaw returns to Jackson’s life.
Beloved author Katherine Applegate proves in unexpected ways the transformative power of friendship, whether real or imaginary. The book is an astute and moving examination of the precipice so many families stare down: the brink of homelessness.

Ivan the gorilla’s voice in the 2013 Newbery Medal Winner The One and Only Ivan is unforgettable. In September 2015, readers will find the same is true of both Jackson and Crenshaw. With Crenshaw, Katherine proves again what we already knew she is one of the finest, most talented authors of children’s literature in our generation.
Katherine Applegate is the author of the bestselling Animorphs series, and the novels Home of the Brave and The One and Only Ivan, winner of the 2013 Newbery Medal. She lives with her husband, author Michael Grant, and their two children in Northern California.
