Dragon Eyes and Color Pencils

Judy Browne's 7th grade art students are learning the proper technique for using color pencils by drawing dragon eyes.
"I begin by teaching my students how to draw a value scale," says Ms. Browne. "I keep things simple, by instructing them that the two most important things to remember are to keep the pencils sharp, and to layer the colors to build up their range of values.  They build their confidence in their work by beginning with this simple exercise first, before proceeding to their final project of drawing dragon eyes.  They enjoyed the fantasy element of this lesson, and I encourage them to develop their own designs."
