About

Our Campus

The O’Neal School is in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Just one hour southwest of the state’s capital, O’Neal is a highly reputed, independent, college preparatory day school of more than a half-century that rests on a beautiful 40-acre campus. Our classrooms, studios, and laboratories are outfitted with the latest in furnishings, technology, and equipment to assist in providing the highest level of quality instruction.  In addition to our administrative, lower, middle, and upper school buildings, O’Neal’s campus also houses an outdoor classroom, a 3D printing and technology lab, our athletic facilities (including an indoor aquatics facility, two full-size gyms, tennis courts, soccer, and baseball fields, as well as a fully equipped sports performance room), a greenhouse, pond with research dock, library, art studios, clay room with kiln and our theater. In the fall of 2022, Konni's Courtyard, O'Neal's Central Campus was opened.

  • School Security and Safety

With its sprawling 40-acre campus and five buildings, The O’Neal School has taken great strides to improve security on campus, which in turn makes it a safer campus. Over the past couple of years, the Board has financed installing cameras in the buildings and implementing a card reader system for certain doors on campus enabling us to have all doors locked on campus all day. All staff and students, 5th grade through 12th grade, are issued ID badges with a FOB that enables them to get into the buildings and assists with knowing who belongs on campus during an emergency. A full-time director of safety and security walks campus and responds to any concerns. The School has also implemented a safety app that is installed on all faculty and staff phones. The app is utilized for emergencies and drills such as fire, medical emergency, armed intruder, suspicious person, or need assistance with just a tap and a slide of their finger on the app. The app also contains written protocols for each situation that can be accessed easily, and is particularly useful for substitute teachers. As you can see, the safety of our staff and students is something that we here at O’Neal take very seriously.
