Middle School & Varsity Cross Country
This week the middle school cross country team ran at Southern Middle against many area public schools and St. John Paul. The boys team had an impressive day with two personal records in Tajh Ariza and Will Huntley. Corbin Weeks finished in the top 20. There were over 100 runners in the race. The boys team continues to display tight pack running and continues to improve with each week.

Kymaria Wall and Abigail Cabanillas were the lone lady Falcons, but represented well! We are very proud of their effort. The middle school team has one more meet of the season. They run next week at Elks Club of Southern Pines.

Varsity Cross Country Conference Meet is Thursday afternoon at Carolina Friends School.

Middle School Volleyball:
SEMSAC Semi Final Game at Liberty Christian
Lost 0-2—( 25-22, 25-17)

The Falcons headed to Liberty Christian Monday night for the semifinals of the SEMSAC conference playoffs. After a slow start, the Falcons used Olivia Antil’s timely digs to get back into the game. Michaela Stone used strong serves to help the Falcons raise their energy in the second set, but in the end, it wasn’t enough to turn the game. The Falcons dropped the match 0-2 to Liberty.

Although the result wasn’t what they had hoped for Monday night, the girls have a lot to be proud of. They went 19-6 this season and 16-5 in conference play. They finished tied for second in the SEMSAC. More importantly than records and scores, the girls were a true treasure to coach. They all were eager to learn, grow and develop as volleyball players. They were great teammates and never short on energy and enthusiasm. On behalf of our entire Middle School Volleyball coaching staff, we want to say thank you to the Middle School volleyball team for a wonderful 2019 season.

Varsity Volleyball
vs Salem Baptist Christian School  Monday, October 7th
The O'Neal School  3  (25-12; 25-12; 25-21)
Salem Baptist Christian School  0

vs Burlington Christian Academy  Tuesday, October 8th
The O'Neal School 0
Burlington Christian Academy 3  (25-23; 26-24; 25-23)

Lady Falcons hosted Salem Baptist Christian School Monday, October 7th in Tate Gym.  Simply saying, it was a beautiful match to observe.  Our team was extremely in sync, hustling and covering the court in each and every play.  Our communication was strong, as we guided each other in precisely receiving a serve, smoothly passing/digging the ball, setting up a play with ease, and attacking powerfully.  We stopped their strongest playing several times with our BIG Blocks and/or digging out her strong hits.  Overall, it was a positive playing experience with several smiles and a successful night with proud moments.

Tuesday, October 8th, we traveled to Burlington Christian Academy for our last conference match.  We had previously beat BCA on our home court, and we are neck and neck with them in conference standings.  Although we played tough and fought hard, our rallies proved to be too late.  These were extremely close sets (evidenced above in the scores), as we only lost by a couple of points each time.  Somewhat disappointing, it is good feeling knowing our Lady Falcons played clean and legitimately responsible every point.

Thursday, October 10th is our PINK OUT Night, as well as SENIOR NIGHT honoring Rachel Patton, Haley Sager and Emily Vest.  We compete against Trinity of Durham/Chapel Hill @5:15pm in the Hannah Center Gym.  Next week, begins NCISAA State Volleyball playoffs!  We look forward to receiving our status and game date Sunday, October 13th.

Middle School Boys Soccer
Won 3-0 against Fayetteville Academy on 10/9 in the Semifinals.
Playing today in the finals against St. John Paul

O’Neal avenged their regular season loss to Fayetteville Academy with a resounding 3-0 victory.  Julien Mazzarulli started the scoring early, finishing a terrific 60 yard run by beating the goalkeeper.  Shortly after, high pressure from the Falcons led to Davis Lincicome stealing the ball in the 18 yard box and finishing it in the corner.  Penn Morris scored the third goal directly from a corner kick, putting it over the goalie’s head and into the side netting.  O’Neal’s defense played impressively well, anchored by Max Pashley, Alex Martin, Penn Morris, Harry Franklin, and Kenan Van Skoyoc.  Parker Anderson, Henry Neville, and Jack Habets applied constant pressure up front, and David White and Jacob Graham helped to win the middle of the field.

Varsity Boys Soccer
Varsity Soccer: O’Neal Falcons vs Burlington Christian Academy
Final score: 0-9 loss
The Falcons suffered a tough loss on Tuesday to Burlington. While the result did not end in the Falcon’s favor, the team played their best game from an offensive standpoint. In fact, the group created ample scoring opportunities with multiple shots hitting the crossbar. There was even a point in the match where the ball remained in our offensive third for a significant amount of time. Unfortunately, the Falcon’s could not capitalize and break the scoring barrier. The team plays their next match at home for Senior Day against Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill on Thursday, October 10, at 4pm.
