Students Identify Invasive Species

Dave Williamson’s Environmental Science Class took a tour of the pond to identify potential invasive species. They discovered a large amount of privet – a woody, very invasive shrub that is native to China and was introduced to the US in the 1800s as an ornamental plant.

The students were tasked to research the plant and report on their findings as the first step in helping to control its growth. With some support from our maintenance staff, students will take part in helping to control the invasive species they discover and research as an ongoing project.
