Falcons Nest - November 4

Lulu Brase, Assistant Athletic Director
The Falcon Cross Country program closed out the Fall Season last week with two strong performances in their final meets. It’s been a tremendous fall for our runners, and we are excited to spotlight both teams in this week’s Falcons Nest.
Varsity Cross Country

O’Neal Varsity Cross Country had a BIG day at the NCISAA 2A State Championship on Friday, October 28th in Greensboro, NC.

Cross Country has had 13 weeks of preparation for the state championship. The runners were ready.  Each athlete has run hundreds of miles, had tough running and performance room workouts, and has worked endlessly on race strategy. Cross Country is similar to golf where the lowest team score wins.  The Falcons finished 3rd for both Girls AND Boys, an impressive State Championship Ending!

A big congratulations to Grace Simpson who placed 4th and received All-State Honors.

In addition, the team had four runners in the State Top 20: Oscar Little, Gunnar Adams, Grace Simpson and Ava Walker Taylor. Other runner placements include on the boy’s side, Charlie Kuzma 26th, Radford Walker 50th, Clayton Manning 64th, Nathan Reifenstahl 65th, Robbie Mays 97th. On the girl’s side, Janna Caviness 31st, Lauren Hobbs 32nd, Elizabeth 92nd, Kaylee 97th, and Charlotte 125th. Overall, the team had 10 personal records on the day. Congrats Falcon Runners! What an impressive season!

Middle School Cross Country
Last Thursday, Falcon runners closed out the season competing against seven other schools in the Moore County Middle School Cross Country Championship at Saint John Paul.

The atmosphere was electric with support and cheers from family and friends throughout the 3200m course, the longest course this season!  Falcons took advantage of the flat, fast trail and set personal records.  Congratulations to Abby Barger, Cecily Perrotta, Hannah Wilcox, Keens Cameron, Grant Sowell, and Jordan Cole for setting personal records and to Parker Fusonie, Colette Lovsin, Isla Riggsbee, and Ryan Ulitenok for earning their season-best times.  And it keeps getting better!  A special shout out to Colette Lovsin for finishing in the top 14 and earning the coveted finisher's medal and to the Falcon Girls for placing 3rd.

The Middle School Cross Country program had many accomplishments this year.  Not only were there many personal records set but the Falcon Girls earned a 1st place finish and had three 3rd place finishes while the Falcon Boys secured three 4th place finishes and a 5th place.

Falcon Runners not only displayed physical and mental toughness throughout the season but also determination and dedication to each other and to the team as well.  An exceptional finish for a very young program.   GO FALCONS!
