Admissions and Enrollment

Submit Teacher Recommendation Forms and Transcripts

Teacher recommendation forms and school records/transcripts must be requested by the applicant family and then sent directly to the Admissions Office via mail, fax or email. While all options are still available to senders, please note that email is preferred at this time and all forms are available for download on our website in editable, PDF format. Information can be typed directly into the form, saved, and then emailed directly to the child’s current school/teacher with a request to use the email option for return to The O’Neal School. Applicants for grades K-4 require one teacher recommendation. Applicants for grades 5-12 require one English Teacher Recommendation and one Math Teacher Recommendation. A Records Request Form must be signed (editable PDF form is enabled for digital signature) by the applicant parent and submitted to the administrative office of the prospective student’s current school with a request to use the email option for return to The O’Neal School.

Student Visit Days and Admissions Playdates

A full-day Student Visit on our physical campus has always been required for all applicants to grades 1-12. Traditional classroom visits give prospective students the chance to experience a typical day at O'Neal, and for teachers to observe prospective students in the classroom setting. A readiness assessment may be administered as a part of your child's class visit. For applicants to grades PreK-3 through Kindergarten, Admissions Playdates are held in January and February for the upcoming school year. Additional playdates may be scheduled as spaces become available later on in the admissions season. An electronic application must be submitted before the Admissions Office can schedule the Visit Day or Admissions Playdate for your child. As the hopeful health and safety of our entire community remains in everyone’s foremost thoughts, a personalized virtual visit experience for each applicant is also available. Once you have submitted your child(ren)’s application(s) in our system, we will be in touch as soon as possible to discuss the details and expectations.

Admissions Decision

Once the above steps are completed the admissions committee will review the applicant’s file. Families will be notified vonce a decision is made. The O’Neal School begins accepting students in February and continues on a rolling basis until all spaces are filled.

Enrollment Agreement

After a student has been accepted the online enrollment agreement must be completed and a non-refundable 10% deposit submitted. This secures your child’s place at The O’Neal School.

Admissions Policies

The O’Neal School is a college preparatory school dedicated to the development of academic excellence, strength of character, and physical well-being of its students in an environment where integrity, self-discipline, and consideration for others are fundamental. The O’Neal School seeks to enroll students who both academically and personally will contribute positively to the mission of the school. O’Neal looks for students with a variety of talents and interests who have a desire to do their best and a willingness to participate.
We are committed to the enrollment of a diverse student body. As a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, O’Neal adheres to the organization’s non-discrimination policies. Applicants are accepted without regard to race, religion, color, creed, national or ethnic origin.
Students must demonstrate the potential to be successful at The O’Neal School based on the applicable elements of the admission process. If school records and testing do not provide a clear assessment, O’Neal may require additional evaluation at the parents’ expense. Please note that any child who will enter kindergarten must be five years of age on or before August 31st of the entering school year.

Additional Considerations

When making admission decisions, the School takes many factors into consideration.
In the admissions process, special consideration is given to the following:
  • Siblings of current or former students
  • Children of alumni
  • Date of application
After a grade level is filled, the School will maintain an applicant pool. If a vacancy occurs, the admissions committee will review the applicants and make a decision.
