Falcons Nest - February 6

A weekly recap of O'Neal Athletics
MS Boys Basketball
O’Neal vs Berean Baptist Academy: 57–38, W
The Falcons delivered an impressive road victory Thursday night with a dominant 57–38 win over Berean Baptist. O’Neal controlled the game with great energy on both ends of the floor, sharing the ball offensively and defending with purpose. Seven players scored, and all 13 Falcons saw game action, highlighting the depth and togetherness of this group. A complete team performance built on effort, execution, and unselfish play.

JV Boys Basketball
O’Neal vs Trinity Christian School: 41-66, L
The Falcons went on the road Friday night and played one of the toughest teams in the conference toe-to-toe. Trinity Christian, the top team in the league, was pushed early as the Falcons trailed by just five at halftime. With only six available players, the Falcons showed grit, toughness, and competitive spirit throughout the game. Fatigue set in during the second half, but the effort, fight, and belief never wavered. A strong showing that reflects the heart of this group and the progress being made.

MS Girls Basketball
O’Neal vs Berean Baptist Academy: 10-33, L
The Middle School Girls Falcons fell to Berean Baptist Academy on Thursday night. While the result did not go in the Falcons’ favor, their second-to-last game of the season showcased encouraging growth and improvement.

Grace Chabalko, Haddie Habets, and Julie Wilson contributed to the scoring for the Falcons. The first half proved challenging defensively, as Berean found consistent success offensively. However, the second half told a different story. The Falcons implemented a 1–3–1 defensive look and showed stronger wing defense, which helped slow the Bulldogs’ scoring and created better defensive possessions.

A special highlight of the night was 6th grader Emma Ayers increasing her shooting confidence, earning her first trip to the free-throw line this season; an exciting milestone.

The Falcons will close out their season on Friday night against Freedom Christian Academy.

Varsity Girls Basketball
O’Neal vs Trinity Christian School: 36-50, L
The O’Neal Falcons showed growth and resilience in a hard-fought contest against Trinity Christian. After coming out of the gate slow, the Falcons settled in and found their stride in the third and fourth quarters, responding with increased energy and execution, though the late surge proved to be too little too late.
Offensively, the Falcons moved the ball well and looked to attack within the flow of the offense. Kennedi Hamner led the way with 16 points, continuing her steady and reliable scoring presence. Sofie Itegie added 10 points, providing a strong spark and demonstrating confidence in key moments.

Defensively, the Falcons emphasized communication and rebounding, while working together to limit second chance opportunities. The team’s commitment to these fundamentals continues to build a strong foundation as they prepare for their next challenge.
