Hannah Burns Commits to University of Pittsburgh

O’Neal senior Hannah Burns has committed to the University of Pittsburgh and hopes to swim for the Lady Panthers. Hannah is thrilled to wear blue and gold and chose University of Pittsburgh because she loves the Pittsburgh area, was very impressed with the programs they offered and wanted to be in the northern part of the country. She has received a personal invitation to participate in a two-week recruiting session for the Lady Panthers Swim Team. Pitt is part of the strong ACC Conference and is a Division I school.
Hannah started swimming for O’Neal’s varsity swim team as a seventh grader and helped lead the Falcons to three state titles in 2014, 2015 and most recently 2019. During her successful varsity career, she has earned both All Conference and All State for six years.  Hannah has held state records in the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay.  She currently holds school records in the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay, and most recently broke her own record in the 100 Free, with a time of 52.68. One of her favorite memories in varsity swimming was breaking the state record with her twin sister Jenna in the 400 Free Relay and winning the State Championship!
“Hannah is a true leader and is never afraid to give it her all in the pool,” said coach Jen Schmitz.  “As the only team captain, Hannah’s dream of being a strong cohesive unit led this small team of girls to the 2019 NCISAA state title and has forever left her mark on O’Neal’s swim program.  I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to coach Hannah for her senior year, and I am looking forward to watching her accomplish her goals both academically and in the pool.”
