Falcons Nest - February 20th

O'Neal Athletics
A weekly recap of O'Neal Athletics
Varsity Girls Basketball
O’Neal vs Faith Christian Academy: 28-32, L
The Lady Falcons competed in a State Playoff game on the road against Faith Christian Academy and battled through a tough shooting night. Defensively, the Falcons were outstanding, holding Faith Christian to just 32 total points and keeping the game within reach. Their effort, communication, and discipline on the defensive end reflected the identity they have built all season.

Offensively, Sofie Itegie and Kennedi Hamner each led the team with 9 points, competing hard and continuing to attack despite the pressure of playoff basketball. 8th graders, Haddie Habets and Julie Wilson, provided tremendous energy and spark off the bench. Both contributed strong defense and added 2 points each, showing confidence and composure in a high-level environment.

This game marked the end of the Falcons’ season, as they finished with a winning regular season record of 10–7. The coaching staff is proud of the growth, resilience, and culture established this year and look forward to continuing to build the program heading into next season.

MS Sports Ceremony
This year, O’Neal Athletics returned to in-person seasonal celebrations for Middle School teams in the Tate Gym rather than sending a recap video at the end of the year. Each season, coaches and athletes gather together as coaches share highlights and brag on their teams, and the athletic department presents treat bags and certificates to every Middle School athlete.

The winter ceremony was a fun and meaningful evening celebrating the All-School Cheer Team, MS Swim, MS Boys A and B Basketball, and MS Girls Basketball. It was especially exciting to recognize the MS Boys Basketball team’s championship win the night before, along with the continued growth and development of each program as they build toward becoming future varsity Falcons.

O’Neal Athletics is grateful for the time, effort, and commitment of its athletes, parents, and coaches. Celebrations like these reflect the strong community and bright future of Falcon athletics.

Spring Sports are Underway
Spring is officially underway at O’Neal Athletics. Middle School teams this season include Co-Ed Golf, Baseball, and Girls Soccer, while the varsity level features Boys Golf, Girls Soccer, Baseball, Track and Field, and Boys Tennis.

The first week of practices has been a welcome change of pace, with athletes and coaches enjoying time outside in the sunshine after a long winter in the gyms. The courts and fields have been full of energy, hustle, and excitement as teams begin preparing for competition.

Contests begin the week of March 2. Check the school calendar for your favorite team’s schedule and come out to support the Falcons this spring.
