Model UN Competes at Appalachian

Jamie Wenzel, O'Neal Freshman
Recently, the Model United Nations team traveled to Appalachian State University for a one-day spring conference. The nine -student team competed against 22 other schools and over 270 students in councils such as The Arab League, UN General Assembly, War of 1812, Cuban Missile Crisis, and the UN Women’s’ Council. With sophomore Sarah Massey, and Freshman Jamie Wenzel receiving an honorable mention for their representation of Libya in The Arab League. During the conference the students participate in both moderated and unmoderated debate to try and find solutions to real world problems like counter extremism, or human rights crises. The trip was a fun and informative experience for the entire team, sophomore Sydney Manor is headed to the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics next year. She said, "This Model United Nations conference was my last, and I am proud to say, my best, at O'Neal. I hope to continue participating in MUN in the future and expanding my horizons in global issues."
